Double how much you are willing to spend and get a 1080p Plasma.

Seriously though, what TV/player do you notice this judder on?

Judder isn't so bad, some people are sensitive to it though. I can live with it anyway.

As far as I know your budget is a bit low for a screen of that size and some TV's claiming they are 24hz/fps compatible still judder.

It's a shame having to drop down to 32" to get what you need

How's about this? Only 37" I know.

http://www.richersounds.com/showprod...=SHAR-LC37XD1E

Sharp LC37XD1E 37" 1080p and it says it has something called TruD anti-judder technology. £799.95

Ok I'll be the first to say the following

There's absolutely NO POINT WHATSHOWEVER in buying a 1080p tv under 50 inches unless you're 2 feet away from it! Else you WON'T see the difference between 1080p and 720p. It's just physically impossible, look it up if you want. Besides 720p sources (some bluray movies / hddvd) will look worse on it since they're upscaled. Upscaling is worse than downscaling, since upscaling adds pixels that aren't supposed to be there and thus create a slight "blur", while downscaling removes pixels you wouldn't be able to discern from the ones next to them and keeps the sharpness.

And thus 1080p = just a number (like the megapixels on a camera, saying absolutely nothing about the PQ)

Get yourself a 42" Panasonic Plasma (like the TH-42PX70, which is priced at around 700 quid). That is 42 inches of 720p goodness, with very good blacks and 150 quid in your pocket. The best tv for the money! Anyone with a bit of tv knowledge will tell you just that.

Look around on the net if you don't trust me (avsforums.com / avsforum.com is a good place to look for customer experiences)

Plasma this and Plasma that, those forums will also tell u that "modern" high spec LCD's will match the blacks output by most Plasma's.

If he has a PS3 and wants 1080p gaming then a 720p Plasma is not gonna suffice.

Theres a few of LCD's on the market that support the 24hz that Blu-Ray movies use. If the TV doesnt support 24hz (and ur player like the PS3 cant force it) then the TV will resort to 60hz (PAL) and 24 doesnt go into 60 so u get a slight judder.

I wasn't saying LCD was bad just that in his pricerange a 1080p 24hz tv isn't useful if he sits away more than a couple of feet away from his screen (which he obviously is since he wants a big screen)

The plasma is cheap big and good, which would seem just right for him. If he had 3000 quid to blow away, sure why not get a full HD 1080p 24hz 50" LCD, but that's not the case here is it.

You can say it all you like but it doesn't make it true. Yes your eyes won't be able to resolve the full detail of 1080p as you would were the TV was 50"+ but your eyes will resolve more detail than 720p. I don't mind you stating the obvious but making untrue claims about not being able to tell the difference between 720p keep that bullshit to yourself. There is a difference between the distance at which the full benefits of 1080 become noticable and when the benefit starts to become noticable.

Also if you want to go telling people facts and telling them to look them up, I suggest you know what you are talking about. The viewing distance for a 42" TV at 1080 is about 6-8 feet range, not the 2 feet you suggest. I mean hell it's even suggested that you could disern the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 24" screen at over 2 feet. Think about it most people sit about 2 feet from their PC monitors.

And these things work both ways when you think about it.

Side note: Wont there be less "jaggies" on PS3/360 games if their run at 1080p rather than 720p? (Higher resolution = less jaggies)...

So the detail is one thing but gaming and jaggies is something else worth mentioning.

That's only if the game natively supports 1080p. There aren't many for the PS3 that do and even less for the X360 (IIRC there is 2).

True, but the PS3 hasnt even been out a year yet, it's always best to future proof imo. Eventually their will be 1080p games.

Well you have completly missed what im after, a screen that supports 24hz/24p not 1080p, couldnt care less if it was 720p or 1080p, but if it does support 1080 then that just a bonus!

My parents have a 42" Panny px70 (cheapest is £800 ) and yes it is an awesome tv i have tried some 24p HD content on it and unfortunetly it was juddering all over the place!

Anyway, i think i am going for the Sony 40" D3000 but thanks for the help/view!

On a side note jkommeren if i had £3000 to go i would be going with a 8th gen Pioneer plasma!

its basically 3:2 pull down, in other words if you are watch a pal movie @ 25fps on a 50hz set you would get the frames in this order:

11 22 33 44 55 66 77 88 99

how ever if u watch 24fps on a 50/60Hz set you get this order of frames:

11 22 333 44 55 666

that 3rd frame is what introduces the judder effect in non 24p comliant tv's

Maybe I am missing something, but surely BluRay/HD-DVDs are 25fps (PAL) or 30fps (NTSC) like for DVDs?

So does anyone know if WinDVD or PowerDVD are any good at playing back 24hz movies on 50 or 60hz displays without judder?
