Default Two days left before the iPhone could drop at any time!!
June is ALLLLMOST here and that means the iPhone could drop at any time once it rolls into June. The target seems to be June 11th to the 20th give or take a day but the official word from Apple and at&t (The New Cingular and The Old AT&T ) is still just “June.”

I’ve got my funds saved up and I’ll start daily calling and dropping by my Cingular store come the 1st to make sure if they start an unofficial pre-order / wait list that I’m near the top. The manager already has said that he knows his store will get a handful of iPhones but I know that it’s the only store in this area and he did say others have been asking about it! I seriously can not wait to get my hands on this thing! It’ll be extra great for me since it’ll be my first camera phone (been waiting to upgrade for like five years, blah blah blah) as well as my first “smart phone” so I know I’ll love it. I’m really hoping having OS X on there will let more stuff work with it, maybe not 3rd party apps but other hardware, such as BlueTooth GPS units talking to Google Maps, etc. Though, there is also the slight chance the phone will ship with GPS built in, I know not everything was done back when it was announced and new features have and will continue to be rolled out.

It’s also been rumored that the data plan is going to be $30, which isn't too bad since it’s unlimited, and I expect to use a lot of data with this phone. However, something I didn’t think about has also been rumored, that MIGHT include EDGE and WiFi, that would totally rock if it gave access to at&t’s WiFi network also, but I’m not holding my breath.

I still can’t make up my mind though about buying the 4Gig unit or the 8Gig unit. Double the space for a $100 more, but I really want to buy the headset and the headset PLUS $100 more might be a bit much. I also plan on keeping my Video iPod (30Gig) and really 1 to 2 Gigs of Loveline can keep me set for almost a month at a time. I figure the rest should be enough for a handful of TV shows or a movie or two and maybe a couple CD’s that I listen to the most.

I guess I’ll see when the numbers come together on the price of the headset and monthly plans...

I’ll make sure to post FROM it once I get it! Oh, and I’m also looking forward to having push email from my Gmail account (Via Yahoo) and being able to use the WebUI from uTorrent anywhere I am to add torrents so they’ll be ready when I get home!

Just like the iPod! For some strange reason, however, I find my self drooling over an iPhone. Acarney, you will have to let us know when you get one and give a mini-review.

It's actually about the interface.

Anyway, look forward to your review acarney. I doubt it will have GPS built in, although it might be able to do that sudo GPS thing where it gets your location by calculating it's position compared to the nearest radio towers (assuming Cingular supports this).

GPS?
IIRC that's a OLD feature that Sprint and Nextel have had for years. Unless it's some weird new GPS thing I haven't heard of yet.

Sound like you need to brush up on your mobile techs:

GPS = Global Positionining System.
GPRS = General Packet Radio Service.

I know what a GPS is, I have used several of them. Now I don't understand the big deal about the GPS feature in phones, I thought most phones were GPS ready. I did a little looking to find most nextel phones are GPS ready.

Many smart-phones support GPS with the aid of something like a bluetooth GPS receiver. Although there currently aren't many on the market that have GPS built in.

Anyway SJ, practically admitted that the iPhone will be launches on the 30th of June. So it looks like there is still a bit longer to wait:

Those phones are not available here. Remember, the US is severely limited when it comes to cell phones and we are a couple of generations behind what is widely available in Europe.

HDSPA networks over here are still very limited so I wouldn’t really get a benefit from that right now (or probably within the next year even) and holy crap, you guys bitch at the iPhone price but that N95 is $750 USD! I’m not even sure how well that would work with the networks over here and that’s IF they let it on their network.

Give or take a day!? Then why even give a 10 day time frame for the release? Why not just give a 2 week time frame that you can guarantee it will be released in? Like say June 10th to the 23rd. Apple Huh?
Well I gave that time frame from rumors I’ve seen in the last month or two. Apple and at&t still haven’t given any more detail past “June” or “Late June.”

You know, I toyed with waiting for the iPHONE for ages... but the LG Prada was just too pretty

I don’t believe the Prada is coming to the US and listening to some tech analyst’s talk they weren’t really impressed with the Prada. They said it’s a good phone, but for what the iPhone is really trying to do (make life easy from its OS) the LG just wasn’t going to be able to do as well as Apple. Either way, again I don’t think that was even an option for me.

GPS?
IIRC that's a OLD feature that Sprint and Nextel have had for years. Unless it's some weird new GPS thing I haven't heard of yet.
Sprint phones have been aGPS enabled for like five years or so, but that’s not a real stand alone GPS chip. It’s assisted by the cell towers and really is only good for E911 service. I’m talking about a real GPS which can be used for point to point routes and current location information. Nextel has had that for awhile but Sprint JUST within like the last year has started having a few phones with those kinds of features. Some smart phones now have them or at least can talk to a BlueTooth GPS device and use mapping software.

The iPhone will have some type of Google Maps on it but I haven’t heard anything official about GPS pairing via BlueTooth or if the version of GMaps on the phone even supports GPS stuff.
