Default Damn cash point :(
Stupid cash point, i put my card in it to get some money out and it ate my card, then said "out of order"

So i go in the bank and tell them. They get my card out and then say "sorry we cant give it you back because you arnt with this bank"

WTF!?

So now i have about £7 to last me till my new card comes [thumbdown]

I am really going to have to get a credit card or something for emergencys..

Can't you go to your own bank (one with a safe / cash money outside the machines) and do a withdrawal?

I'd make a complaint with your bank and the one that took your card if you had ID. I can understand them not hanging it over if they didn't know who you were, but if you had something like a drivers license then there's no reason for them to have witheld it. It's no exactly easy to get cash out on a weekend!

That may be because, as it's not your bank, they can't confirm your ID with their database or bank account number. Your card doesn't have much more info than an account number and a name. They can't see who the account number belongs to, and the name on the card could belong to anyone.

Banks are obligated to be very strict with their security and identification.

I did have my drivers license on me. And yes its hard to get money out at the weekend :/

You're not necessarily the only person in the world with your name - that's just one of the identifying features banks use.

Having seen up close and personal the trouble banks have to go through by law, trust me on this one: it's super tight, because that's the law and those are the rules. It's not to annoy you and it's not completely unreasonable - it's just something that most people have never given much thought to, so they'll be a bit surprised (like you are now) when confronted with it.

Your wrong.
Read your T&C's with regards bank cards.
You will see "The card remains the property of the bank at all times" within them.

- Sorry, you did ask to be corrected if you were wrong.

But it wasn't the bank in question who owns the card, and you don't need to read the T&C, it's clearly printed on all cards.
