Pilot Sports are so expensive
I'm fairly sure you're taking the piss so I'll retort.
Anyone who puts khumos on the car as a permenant fixture knows nothing.
We used to use them as weekend tyres, burnt them out because they were so cheap.

I'd take a set of Pilots over any khumo any day of the week.

Default New shoes for my Subie
well, i've got the last track day for the year coming up on november 12th, so i finally broke down after killing my last set of tires (225/50 on 6.5 wide rims=built in curb feelers!!) at the last one. ordered some new rims and tires. and i finally got my springs on that i ordered something like ten weeks ago [rofl] . front/rear adjustable sways and endlinks, as well as a harness bar and sparco 3" belts should be here the middle of the week. now the main question is can i get a downpipe and get it in to go stg 2 before the track day...

mah baby:

and my old tires after two 15 minute lapping sessions:

So excited you forgot to say what tires?

I put Hankook Ventus Z212/R-S2 on my Audi A4 and the level of grip is amazing. Traction in the wet is also superb and I've never once had them hydroplane.

Not being funny, and not meaning to offend but they are some sh1te tyres.
You've got an alright car there and you've stuck cheap Rubber on the Rims.

You should have got some Michelin Pilots or Bridgestone Potenza.

sorry to bump an old thread but....

the 1st set of mx destruction was my fault. 15 minute lapping sessions at 48psi front/51 rear will cook a set of tires ASAP (not to mention hitting the curbing ).

in regards to getting a better tire.. when you say potenza's you mean like the re-92's . i haven't tried the s-03's, but if they are anything like the s-02's, i won't spend the cash on them. turn in sucked even worse than the 225's on 6.5 inch rims... yes the kumho's are cheap, but inso far, i have yet to find something that i like better for a dd/track day then them or the original azenis...

Bronze on black always looks nice, are they Gram Lights 57F? Your Subie is coming along nicely, mine is basically stock except for the V7 STi suspension that I practically stole from a guy, Perrin turbo inlet (stock inlet was melting near the turbo), Rally Armor mudflaps, and just bought a used ScoobySport axle back waiting on shipping [thumbup] (trying to piece together my exhaust the poor mans way)

Kumho MX tires are a good value tire, imo. They aren't the most supreme tire out there, but they get the job done and can be had a cheap price.

Here is a brand new test from the german "ADAC", the biggest german automobile club, it's in 205/55R16, but you can see quite good, which tyre performs best:

(click on the red "i" there)

got the rims from tirerack.com. they are gram lights 57c's in bronze. an inch taller/wider than stock, but wiegh 1 pound less each. i wanted the gold ones but they had a butt load of blue graphics on them. i'm too lazy to take them off

*edit* gross those are all season tires, waste of time imo

Well ive got Michelin Pilots on my Audi, and i dont like them. They have way too much road noise, ride a bit rough, and they dont seem to have much grip compared to my friends car (which is the exact same make and model) which rides on Dunlop SP Sport.
But the Pilots do seem good in the wet, just as good as in the dry...but disappointing otherwise.

So last night, my tire went flat after a failed patch, so i drove to the tire store and got 2 tires for 65$ each. I don't know what brand they are, but they aren't flat anymore.

You're running those on 6.5" wide rims? If so, not good!

How was the service? I was thinking about ordering some wheels from them.

actually it wasn't bad for a tire with a section width of something like 9.2 inches [rofl] . turn in was atrocious, steering feel sucked; but the rear end liked to rotate with trailing throttle into corners [thumbup] .

LP, i've been using them since '96. i've ordered three sets of rims and probably 12 or 13 sets of tires from them. VERY good service. for instance, the 57c's i ordered didn't come with center caps, had to pay extra for them (~$75). they came "installed" in the rims, but 3 out of the 4 caps had broken clips that hold them on. sent them an email, and a couple days later i received 4 new center caps free of charge.

Well it's obvious you're aware of the negative effects, so what you did is fine, I just wanted to make sure others didn't get the wrong idea and follow your example, when it's not what 99% of the people out there would want.

So others might understand, I'll say that it's all related to the aspect ratio. If you're running 50 series or greater, then the wheel/rim width only needs to be 70% of the tire's width. However, when using 45 series or lower, the wheel/rim should be 85% of the tire width.

Here's a link to one site which states this rule, and I'm sure they know what they're talking about.

Not following this rule will result in the effects Porn_Loader cited, and possibly more.

i can't believe i missed this gem [rofl] .

the same thing could be said about blanket statements. can you say the same thing about victoracers?

point is, bang for the buck, the kumhos win hands down. try to find anything that doubles their performance for 2x the cost and you can't. are there better out there? hell yea, i am itching to try the bridgestone re01r's but i am not willing to spend the cash for them. but for the cost of the mx's, i am willing to give up that 1/5th of a second on a 45 second auto-x run. not to mention the fact on how "quickly" i go through tires compared to the normal driver.

but yea, good call [rolleyes]

*edit* oh yea, nod the term maypop comes to mind....

Agreed wholeheartedly. I would even take it a step further and say that anyone who even considers tires to be a permanent fixture knows nothing.
