One of our users just brought his personal laptop to me today. He said he went to Best Buy and had the Geek Squad install some new ram for him. When he got home his laptop wouldn't even post. I told him his first mistake was taking it to Best Buy but I would look at it when I had some time.

I opened up the ram cover and there was his new ram...unseated. The tech just put the ram in and didn't bother seating them. The weird thing is that both sticks were this way when he was only supposed to install 1 new stick.

*laughs*
Maybe it was that new wireless ram. Yeh....

Saw this on digg a while ago, its a news story where they take a computer, disconnect the IDE cable, and take it to different PC repair shops to see if they diagnose the problem correctly.

We have an article that the Register did up in our shop. They compared PC World technicians to the technicians at small, local shops like ours, PC World came off far worse than anything. Sometimes, PC World charged £180 for a reinstall, just a reinstall with no new hardware. £180 to us would be a complete upgrade, new mobo, ram, hard drive, cpu, case, etc.

Nice. . .

BTW, lrock. . .the only suggestion I have is to find a new job before BBY bends you over the counter, dude. They don't exactly have the greatest history of being nice with their employees. Personal experience, and the experience of several friends.
