Default Animals in the womb. Tonight C4 9pm [UK]
Came across the trailer for this last night and thought it would probably be quite fascinating to watch. Will be on at 9pm C4, pictures alone are quite stunning.

Using revolutionary four-dimensional scanning technology, scientists are able to shine a light on the hidden secrets of mammalian embryonic development. The film charts the journey of three species of foetal mammal – a litter of puppies, a single elephant calf and a dolphin.

Dog embryo at around 30 days. It is approximately 2 cm in length – no larger than a grape. This is the dog embryo half way through its gestation.

Dog foetus nearly full-term – 60 days. A full coat of hair, nails and paw pads are present.

A dolphin in the womb (8-9 month foetus).

I heard Kinga Karolczak offered her services when she heard of this program being made, but was disappointed when she found out it was biologically impossible*.

*Except for the puppies

I have to admit im completely uninterested by a dog foetus etc. I am however very interested in this scanning technique they are using. I wonder if they will go into detail on it or if they will just skim over it as 'a revolutionary four-dimensional scanning technology'. The closest thing I can think of would be Optical Coherence Tomography, which is like ultrasound but has a much higher resolution at the cost of lower penetration power. The technology is currently having loads of money thrown at it by government agencies becauseof its potential use in security and its ability as proper James Bond style X-ray vision.

It was on in the US a couple weeks ago. The elephant is covered throughout the length of the show, where as the dog is covered in some of the first half, and the dolphin in some of the second half.
I suppose this is somewhat necessary as the elephant's gestation period is significantly longer then the other two... but quite frankly, I just didn't care about an elephant so I was kinda put off by how much of the show was about the elephant.

Still interesting to watch though, I just think it could have been better done.

Four-dimensional!

Wow... must be using a PS3

I hope they mention something about the scanning technique as I am intrigued.

Thanks for the heads up. [thumbup]
Looks like it'll be an interesting watch.

The 4th dimension is time.
Thought the naming was a little corny myself, but hey, I guess they can call it whatever they want.
