Default Top Mini-Turbo - Does this thing actually work? (Car related)
Yo guys, just came across this contraption that claims to increase your performance and lowers fuel consumption of your car. Does this thing actually work?

This Mini-Turbo thingy is supposed to bring in more air into your engine and makes your acceleration pedal feel lighter or something like that. The lower fuel consumption will take affect after like maybe 3 or 4 refuels. I'm curious on how this thing actually works.

Nah Id say not.

cos its not actually a turbo. and its not anything to do with the induction system.

What the hell is that? Looks like it vents the crankcase breather out instead of into the intake or something.

Well it is connected to the brake servo to the breather.

right.... so your going to put that on somthing thats gonna save your life ?

if its connected to the master cylinder the only connection its normally at is at the intake manufold to produce a vacuum

**** me steer well clear.

its like me putting an air filter in my fuel line to improve carburation on a diesil.

I dont honestly see any benifiet apart from making your breaks innaffective

Well based on a quote by a guy in the other forum its basically like this I think. Or could be another not sure cause the way he explained it was kinda hard to understand.

Mini turbo is installed at the brake servo hose or direct breather hose from engine to manifold..

i dunno how microcompressor work but many claim that it doesn't really improve anything..

The ecu isn't as stupid as we think, hehe..it will automatically resets the setting based on the data they recieve..this mini turbo increases the air ratio from 70-75 (normal) to 90+ depending on the engine..therefore, the ecu will also retune the ratios based on that..

After it detects the changes, it will adapt to it and seldom will it readapt back to the original setting unless you reset the ecu by unplugging the fuse or removing the -ve battery terminal..

the best way to increase air flow on modern engines is to piss around with the Airmass/flow sensor.

plus improve the induction by kits ect


I cant honestly say that would work and if the police or MOT people found it they would fail/make the vehicle unroadworthy due to brake system tampering

Well that would take a lot of work and money won't it? Besides another thing that this thing claims is that it's plug and play for modern cars and the old carb cars just need CO retuning or something. I actually don't want to believe that it works but quite a few people have bought it and reported back lighter acceleration pedals and lower gas usage.

Makes me quite curious to say at least.

Well, if it's connected to the brake vacuum then it probably reduces the suction to the brake servo to lighten the load on the engine. This would give a very slight change in the available power output fromt he engine I guess, but the brakes will feel heavier.

lol no all you need is a resistor in the airflow meter to fool the ecu

its fiddly but it can work id suggest getting one from a breakers yard personally

also I feel that this mini turbo is just a mechanical placibo as what tah said it probably has a minute effect but do you want that little boost if it means possibly compromising ur breaking system

I wouldn't touch this with a 10ft pole. Lump it with snake oil, electric turbo's and other vapor ware.

The only way to get forced induction is with a true turbo, or supercharger. Electric superchargers do increase power, however the problem is that they draw massive amounts of electricity to do it. Inducing a very large load on the electrical system which creates more parasytic loss and defeats any of the gains from the electric s/c in the first place.

Don't get it.

Don't get the Tornado fuel saver either.

Also, don't mod the MAF sensor! Instead mod the tables to match the engine mods you have. The only reason to mod the maf resistance is if the MAF cannot read beyond a certain CFM (common problem with turboing a n/a MAF car that has a 1bar sensor). MAF translators are only used to allow the MAF to read more air flow, but at the expense of resolution so it won't read as accurately.

Go visit a Buick Grand National forum and read up on the 3.8L V6 Turbo. They run MAF translators with LT1 mafs as a common mod, but there is some serious tuning to go along with it.
