Default Can someone recommend me some Manga films?
I've seen a few Manga films on TV that got me hooked many years ago, so if you guys know of something similar that would be great, here's what I like.

Cyber City Oedo 808
Akira
Devilman
Fist of the North Star

Can't seem to get them here in the UK, Amazon aren't much help either.

Are there any sites that specialise in Manga DVD's?

Cheers.

If you're searching for "manga dvds" that might be why you cant find much, try "anime" instead.

One off the top of my head I like is Cowboy Bebop: Knocking on Heaven's Door.

Studio Ghibli films are very high quality, tho more fairytale - ish

Films like Akira and such would be:
  • Battle Angel Alita
  • Ghost in the Shell
  • Ninja Scroll
  • Street fighter 2 (do not confuse this with the van claude mess)
Many more come to mind, will try to write em down

Thanks. As you can see from my short selection I do love the brutality of the films, so anything with a good story and loads of blood and guts would be great.[thumbup]

Going old school I see!

Along those lines.

Bubblegum Crisis 2032/2033 (not that 2040 crap)
Project A-ko
Guyver
Street Fighter II: The Movie

My more modern choices would be the 2005 remake of the Guyver Series since it covers all the manga volumes vs just the first 12 as the original series does.

Hellsing, either "Hellsing: Ultimate" manga style reproductions which are truer to the manga with more humor or the original. Or the original 13 episode animated series based on the manga which is darker and has way better music. A great bit of music with good animation, and it helps that the original series and manga are great. The jazz selection of music they used is simply awesome and written specifically for the series.

I also enjoyed the remakes of Appleseed, and Appleseed: Ex Machina. Not my favorite art style but they are entertaining.

Blood: the Last Vampire is also good. (not the TV series but the movie that has little to do with the series.

Karas - six part OVA but you can watch it in one sitting (cg+animation)
Sword of the Stranger - Movie (animation)
Ghost in the Shell: Innocence - Movie (cg+animation)
Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X: Trust & Betrayal - two part OVA (animation)

A couple of those may seem slow at the start, but all of them have enough blood and violence to keep you happy and are good enough to watch even if the blood isn't your first point of interest.

+1 for hellsing.
Add fatal fury #3 it's my favorite of the bunch.
Tekkaman blade aka teknoman is good as well.
FLCL is one funky show. Crazy. Entertaining though.

If you want some quality anime films try watching Jin-Roh: Wolf Brigade, Cowboy Bebop and the original Ghost In The Shell.

I'm much more capable at recommending actual shows than single films though.

Forgot to add fatal fury #3, its my favorite of the bunch too I keep forgetting there's actually 3 of them (the first is pretty forgettable).

Also another great one which I think tremendously left a big mark on me was grave of fireflies, amazing movie but I always feel like sh*t afterwards since its too depressing.

Cheers guys, so many to choose from.[thumbup]

This is another silly question, but what are the differences between Manga and Anime in general?

Sorry to get all giddy but I found this site.

http://www.anime-on-line.com/xcart/home.php

And saw Afro Samurai on Blu-ray

Remember it a couple of years back on tv, thought it was great.

Found others too, happy new year to me.

Manga is pretty much Japanese for comic book while Anime is Japanese for animation. The company Manga entertainment went with Manga because it sounded more masculine.

Claymore was a decent series.

If you're gonna watch Hellsing watch the ultimate remake. Much better IMO. Still 1 episode left to go I think.

I haven't seen a good gorey anime in a while. For me it's been mostly mahou shoujo type stuff. Or the borderline hentai type stuff like Queen's Blade. I'm just weird like that. They don't seem to make many good action series anymore. Nothing like Berserk anyway.
