Default What do you think you need most work on... and do the stats back it up?
Two part question, as the title specifies.

In my case, if I wasn't using golfshot to track my stats, my main areas of focus would be
1) Greens in reg
2) Driving
3) Short game
4) Putting

Now I know I am a poor putter, but don't feel I have very good practice facilities and that green speeds vary so much course to course that don't think lag putting which is my weakness could be practiced effectively.

According to golf shot, my biggest areas of weakness (averaged vs others w/ a similar handicap) are:
1) Bunker play
2) Putting
3) Greens in Reg
4) Virtual tie between short game and driving

I don't find myself in bunkers all that often lately, so in reality, if I can improve putting and iron play, my scores will see the biggest improvement.

Do your stats synch up with your mindset? Do you even track stats and am I too big of a golf dork as a 19 tracking them?

GIR's for me. That is a no brainer. If I hit greens I score well, if I don't, I don't. I would think that is true of most everybody.

My biggest flaw right now is driving. I feel great with my FW, hybrid, and iron play (nothing spectacular but definitely better than bogey golf)....however, too often my drive leaves me with a 2nd shot that is not very manageable. Hitting from the fairway, first cut, or even the rough would be fine but in South Florida the trees are often placed in areas to completely and totally punish shots in the rough lol.

My second thing to work on is growing a pair and not just going along with my playing partners who love to play from the tips (7000-7200+). I'm not a short hitter but still I hate having a hybrid or long iron in on a par 4.

Actually, I need to work more on entering my scores in Golfshot so I can get real stats, lol. I can't say I have the proper stats to back up my thoughts as I only enter them on occasion. My gut say's:

1. Short Game (Just really avg this year)
2. Putting (I'm no natural, work always needs done)
3. GIR
4. Driving

I don't expect to ever hit the ball long, but straight would be nice.

Driving accuracy with my driver. If I could consistently put it in the fairway, with my length, golf would become pretty simple.

The days I am striping my driver are usually my "go low" days.

Scrambling around the greens and putting is usually consistently solid, irons are usually solid enough. Driving is my big wonder going into each round...will it be a big stick day, or a 4 iron off most tees day?

That's easy, I need to work on my green side scrambling. I'm getting ready for our city tournament this weekend, and had league yesterday. I didn't make any mistakes, but I didn't have any saves either. I left about 5 shots on the course with blown greenside chips. I put a lot of chips about 15 feet past the whole. Everything else is playable, and my putting is probably as good as its been for the past couple of years. Just need to get those up and downs.

My Golfshot stats for last 5 rounds:

  • fairways hit: 58.0%
  • greens in regulation: 25.6%
  • recovery performance: 11.9%
  • putting averages: 2.0
Like most my obvious need is to hit more GIR, get more up-and-downs, and avoid 3-putts.

GIR is my glaring weakness. I hit about 60% of fairways, but only about 20% GIRs. On days where my chipping gets me close enough to one putt, I can go mid-80s, when it's not, I'm in mid-90s. My average putts are about 1.9/hole, so I seem to convert pars on my GIRs most of the time, but when you only hit 2-4 greens per round, there are a lot of chipping strokes.

Over the last 10 rounds, my putts per hole are 1.98. Putts per GIR are 2.375. Ouch.

It is kind of a pain after every hole to input the info, but it helps to provide objective info, especially a few days down the line when rounds start to blur into each other.

I agree completely and need to just hide the score card so I have to enter it, haha. I always like looking back after the round, but kind of a pain during the heat of battle.

For me its my Chipping and pitching that will really lower my scores. Getting the ball on the green is not good enough when we are within 80 yards, you need to put that ball close to the pin, especially when chipping. I've been working hard at it but I have a long way to go to get my short game to where it needs to be.\

I feel I'm a decent putter, but if you leave yourself 25' birdie and par putts you are going to 2 putt those most likely and that is not a reflection on your putting, but on your wedge game.

fairways. i'm hitting roughly 40% of greens right now and i'm missing 45+% of fairways...to get more GIR's i need more FIR's...my short game and putting are the best they have ever been so i know if i'm in/around the green i'm confident that i'm making par or better.

This is my last 20 rounds from Golfshot, Looks to me like I need to concentrate on GIR and putting....to me I would consider 60% of the fairways and getting up and down a little better than 1 out of 3 to be pretty dang good....my overall putts may be 1.8 but putts per GIR are 2.0.

fairways hit: 62.8%

greens in regulation: 37.3%
recovery performance: 38.3%
putting averages: 1.8

My last round, golfshot really came in handy. We stopped for a sandwich at the turn and a few birds stopped by the cart. I didn't have any food out so wasn't really concerned. When I get back to the cart, one of the birds left a BIG present right on the card. This is the first time someone else has crapped my card worse than me.

My GolfShot stats for my last 10 rounds are:

Fairways Hit: 71.9%
GIR: 30.2%
Scrambling: 16.8%
Sand Saves: 35.7%
Putting: 1.90 per hole/ 2.08 per GIR

So for me its definitely GIR's and scrambling, followed by putting. All things that I already know...

Driving and greenside short game

If I put myself in the fairway with a good drive I can usually get myself on the green or just barely off but I drive the ball so erratically that I don't give myself the chance for even going for the GIR
