Default The Tag Ninja- dog tag help
I did a post on this a while back, but still haven't found what I wanted and now I have a new problem.

Rita. The Tag Ninja. I don't know how she does it!! She can get out of any crate, but she will usually stay in as long as she knows that's what we want. She has unhooked her lead from her collar a few times (this id why I went to a two clasp system using a coupler hooked to the leash and then to her flat collar and her harness) and the thing is that the leash clasp and collar were in perfect working order. The other dogs used the same leash and have never gotten off it.

Her newest? She has figured out how to remove her tags. I use a key ring to hold her tags on because the D-ring of her collar is so thick. In the last 2 months, she has gotten her city license off and her tag that I made off, too. After I found her tags and put them back on the key ring she managed to break her city license and remove her personally made tag again a couple days ago. One minute her tags are where they should be, the next one of both are missing. The other 3 have had no problems with their tags.

The clips I have seen other members using I am pretty sure she could get off, so they are out. I just got new licenses for this year and would like to figure out a way to keep the tags on Rita and keep them in relatively good condition! Any ideas? It's ok if its hardware store parts that aren't specifically made for dogs.

Anyone know where to get a tag made of good, thick, metal and that will engrave the tag with our personal info and microchip info? I don't think the regular tags can hold up to her.

You could look into a personalized collar with her info actually stitched on it. I even think they have ones with metal plates attached that you can have engraved.

I thought about that, but she has allergies and I am very limited in collar material choices. Right now she is wearing a very thick leather Stillwater with a deerskin lining. It's much too thick to get embroidered.

I know a forums member or two had a neat thick metal tag made but I cannot for the life of me remember the thread or the place they got it

I have the same problem with Harley. I even find her metal tags mangle and chewed up in the yard. (She has a thing about chewing on metal.) Anywho, although I can not do anything about the rabies and microchip tags, I did have a brass plate engraved and attached to her collar with my personal information on it. She can't lose that unless she looses the whole collar.

I had mine made by a friend who does engraving and attached to the collar with rivets. This would work for leather as well as nylon collars.

We are still working on the microchip and rabies tag issues. Hope someone has a good idea.

Good to know it's not just Rita. I was starting to think she's a freak, lol.

I was thinking of trying stainless steel tags from multiple online sites. Figured that would be tougher than the typical aluminum. I should probably have tags made with microchip info, too. The ones that came with the chips were plastic and I just tossed them because there was no point.

Still got nothing on how to attach them to the collar in such a way that they won't come off. *sigh* I've been googling dog tags and attachers all day and I'm not getting anywhere.

And the city license thing really sucks. They only have aluminum tags available and they change the color and shape every year so the cops and AC can see at a glance if the tag is current. I have to use the tag they give, but the tags are always almost completely unreadable within 5 months and that's if it hasn't broken off. If I have to buy a replacement tag from the city they charge $10...bastards.

I am really no help, I use
Ella's Lead - Scissor Snaps
it MIGHT work just because she would have to be able to push it at an angle and open it all the way not like a bolt snap but I just donno.

<b>If her collar is wide enough, I would just drill holes in her tags and screw them onto her collar! LOL

You can get the plate tags that can be attached to any collar, too.

If you want a REALLY thick tag, my friend got this one...

She managed to get an intact tag off of a key ring. I'm pretty sure she could ninja that

I use 880 lb. 1/4 in. Zinc-Plated Quick Link-7035-24 at The Home Depot but smaller. There is sealant for them as well to keep the link closed.

I don't think there's anything thicker than the fat brass fetching tags:

Have you looked into a Rubit clip? They are very difficult to get off. I highly doubt she could undo it. And its held up really well to all kinds of crazy shit for my dogs.

I love my fetching tag! Its the shiz!

You could have a fetching tag made for and riveted onto an EL or Paco leather collar.

I actually use a quicklink to put Roxie's tags on her collar. They're more secure than clips and it's easy to switch collars- just break out the pliers and untighten it, switch it onto the other collar. Plus it's kind extremely complicated for a dog to get undone... but there's the s-hook to connect the tag and quicklink, so... that might be an issue? Idk. I just got the smallest I can find at home depot, so it could be a solution. They're pretty hardy.

Also, I use Boomerang Tags. They are EXCELLENT.

I tried using these once... they came undone EVERY TIME! >.< Even when I tightened them with pliers! I don't know HOW it kept happening! lol

That fetching tag is awesome.. if it came silver coloured, I'd be all over it!

I had that happen when I was using one for another dog to attach collar to leash. There's some blue goo in a tube you can put on there to keep it tight, but then you can't undo it...ever.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am going to check into those fetching tags..they look sturdy as all hell!

I did find those Rubit clips but I wasn't sure how easy it would be to undo and I haven't seen them in stores here to mess with.

The fetching tags do come in silver, but they're about half as thick as the solid brass ones.

I went and checked the pricing on those fetching tags. I did like them, but they are so expensive! I was also not happy with the limited engraving. I like having the dog name, our address, our home phone and a cell phone on the tag.

I'll probably go with stainless steel and see how that goes. Has anyone used http://www.loveyourpets.com/? They are very reasonably priced. Actually cheaper than the aluminum tags from the machine at the pet store. And they can include all the info I want on the tag.

I've used that site. Nice and cheap. I got my dogs tags a year ago from them and they're still legible and intact, but dirty.

That's good to know because I placed an order with them a few minutes ago. Now to find a way to attach it to the d ring without the idiot savant getting it off. I swear to God, she is about retarded when it comes to anything but escaping crates, losing tags and loving people.
