No justice here, just like anything else involving vigilanties. These people may have done the right thing for their community, but that does not make it justice. More like they just recogonized a threat, and took care of it, since the system obviously failed to do so.

I think there is a lot of blame to spread around. The owner, for sure. The ACO for not confiscating the dog after the 1st or at least 2nd bite and the dude who killed it. But the thing is, this dog was a danger to the neighborhood and considering how the owner and AC failed, I really can't blame them for taking matters into their own hands. The method was barbaric, but understandable if you don't have a gun or aren't willing to take a discharge of a firearm in city limits charge.

BTW, it was the victims BF that killed the dog. My original post says the victims GF ><

I have to agree that the dog was not safe and needed to be put down. Beating it with a jack? Not very humane and I do agree with prosecuting the person that did it. No matter how aggressive the dog was it didn't deserve that treatment.

Vigilante Justice - an oxymoron if I ever heard one. There is no real justice without due process in the United States.

Killing the dog was right but the method used was wrong. If it happened at the same time as the attack, he would've been defending his gf but waiting three hours and planning to beat the dog is sick. No matter how mad you are, beating a dog to death is not quick and he would've had to hear the dog cry out in pain. Poor dog, beat the owner, she's the one who needs a beating.

On a side note, I can't watch ACDetroit, those people are just plain stupid, not ignorant, STUPID!!!!!!!

Beating an animal to death with your bare hands is a bit extreme. I believe the animal should have been put down. Too bad the owner couldn't be responsible enough to contain her animal properly.

Considering the first 2 attacks were handled through AC legally and nothing was done to protect the public, I have to say I don't think there was justice going through the system.

WTF, it's Detroit, where lovers have matching guns. There wasn't a single gun amongst them? I find that hard to believe.
Probably was, but I'd rather take a cruelty to animals charge than a firearms charge with it.

I agree that the dog should have been put down, but beating it to death?? No, I don't agree with that.

I wouldn't fault someone for killing the dog if they did it humanely. If this person couldn't take responsibility after the first two times, what makes you think she'd take responsibility for the third time? Still, I don't think beating it with a jack was appropriate.

Default Vigilante Justice?
This might turn into a debate, so if it needs to be moved that's cool.

I was watching Animal Cops: Detroit this morning because I am bored. There was a pretty screwed story I thought I'd post and get your thoughts on.

The MHS gets a call about a dog beaten to death. It appears to be a Pit Bull mix with very strong bully features. Apparently, according to the owner, the dog had gotten loose and bitten someone. AC placed the dog in quarantine and had it given a rabies shot before releasing it back to the owner. Less than 1 month later, it bit another person while loose. The owner was awaiting a court date because she had been ticketed for both incidents.

The dog got loose yet again and bit a 17 year old girl. The victims GF and a couple other neighbors went down there and literally beat the dog to death 3 hours later with a car jack while the girl and her mother were at the hospital.

Of course, on the one hand I think vigilante justice is a bad thing to promote. On the other hand, 3 bites? Really? I can't say I blame them. I might have gone down and shot or sliced the throat of that dog myself if it had been one of my kids.

The main perpetrator of the beating was charged with a felony animal cruelty the ACO said would be plead down because of circumstances and would likely end up with fines and probation for 2 years.

imo the owner of the dog should have been beaten with the jack, and the dog humanely destroyed....

I know. I live about 20 minutes by freeway from downtown. Some of the people there are freakin retarded and those are always the ones that end up on some show or speaking to the news.

These episodes were from before the HS decided to adopt out Pit Bulls and Pit Bulls mixes, too. So as I watch them pick up stray Pits or Pits that have been abused/neglected I know I am looking at a dog that was euth'd. And if I manage to forget the freakin officers or the narrator will mention it.

I mostly agree with what's been said already... yes, the dog needed to be put down. But no, the dog didn't need to be beaten to death. So yes, I think the people responsible for that SHOULD be charged for it... but the dog shouldn't have been allowed to live long enough for these people to feel this was the best solution.
