Default This exhaust worth it?
I still need to iron out a few questions from the guy I could end up getting this from.

Basically what it is is a dual exhaust with a cherry bomb on each pipe from a 1978 280z. I would end up putting this on my 1971 240z once I get it back from California and put a new exhaust manifold on it.

Here is what the exhaust looks like.
http://berchtesgaben.googlepages.com/exhaust

Goes from the manifold all the way down to the end.
The guy lives in North Carolina. He is about 4hrs away from my house. I would spend a good half day to go get this exhaust.

Do you think that 8hrs of my time, getting to see a really nice 240z, and a free exhaust is worth it?
Gas would cost me around $80 or so I think. An exhaust like that could run in the few hundreds. Plus I cant find any nice exhausts for my 240z, so I would end up having to get a custom made exhaust which could be a little pricey.

What do you guys think? Should I spend my time to go get this exhaust for free, or should I just pass it up?

It's free, if you enjoy a nice 4hr drive and are sure the 280Z exahust will fit on the 240Z, then it seems worth it to me.

Also $80 in gas? What are you driving, a moving van?

Hmm, well you can't beat free. I do have a question about dual exhaust for this car. To me, it seems silly to put dual exhaust on an I6. What does that manifold look like? 3 cylinders tie together and go into one pipe? Just curious.

For optimum scavenging, you do, indeed, have the front three and the back three tied together with the secondaries either joined or independent, as that gives even exhaust pulses. Alternatively, 1&6, 2&5 and 3&4 have been used as primaries with a 3>1 collector.
In this.

My main concern would be using cherry bombs as they're darned inefficient. Given a choice, I'd always go for a large, triple pass or similar muffler - the good ones are actually LESS restrictive than using a straight piece of pipe.

Could look at it as a nice drive with a free exhaust thrown in.

I am expecting to spend anywhere from $30 to $80 in taking my S10 over there. Depending on how fast I drive, I can pull off anywhere from 25mpg to 30mpg. Though I dont know the distance to this dudes house.

Yeah, I too am sorta wondering if Dual Exhaust is needed for this I6. I some I6s two smaller pipes like these would seem good. Though for the L series engine, they don't like anything larger then 2 1/2 inches. Passed that and you start decreasing your power output. So I am going to ask the dude how big these are and get on my Datsun forums and see if these two pipes together is too large and will have a negative effect instead of a positive effect.

Any other of the few car onioners got any opinions?

imo, no

unless you have no exhaust at all, and if you do have one, you could make it a strait through exhaust for less than your gas money, as far as this giving you more power than your current one... im thinkin no
