You know what...you two are right, thanks for the insight. I think I shall tell the hubby to let his friend know we just can't take one off his hands...free or not.
He was irresponsible, not my fault.
Maybe you can assist in finding the pups suitable homes instead. Regardless, you're making the right decision.

There's a TON of dogs and puppies I'd LOVE to take home, but I must....hold....back!!!
same. I posted on here not *too* long ago about how badly I wanted some little BYB Doberman pups. they were cheap (as Dobes go- $200) and they looked like they had all kinds of energy and drive, and the breeder's dogs were SHORT CROPPED!! just how I like 'em lol.

But even if you *reeeally want* one, you have to consider the health, temperament, and long-term future of the pup...
obviously, I think you're making the right decision.
