Default Intrusion attempt
This j.a. keeps trying to access my PC. Apparently someone who works in a hospital is interested in me.

medical-static-center.ru:8080/filez/readme.pdf

They're using a proxy so I take it this could still be US? Maybe it's a Russian doctor trying to find a mail order bride.

Sounds to me like someone hacked the hospital and they are using it to try to gain access to your computer.

Nline would know exactly what it is!!

You are being stalked by a PDF file?

What is displaying this? What are you doing when you see this?

I don't know what the heck it is. I was all over the place on the internet but I wasn't on any sites that were medically related, so I don't know where this is coming from. Whatever this thing is it keeps trying to get in or open on my system or something. What I listed is the attacker URL.

When something that's classified as a high severity alert is blocked I get a warning that comes up on my screen that lists the "intrusion attempt." I don't get very many "high alerts" so it made me curious.

I need to change my settings to where I don't what they're blocking because I've been paranoid ever since I saw all those Chinese characters pop up across the top of my screen. Every time those Chinese characters appeared and I tried to log out it would say I was prevented from shutting down because the Chinese thing was running. The smarty pants Chinese spyware hacker apparently blocked my ability to make a screen print of its foolishness.

Apparently, the Chinese have now handed me over to the Russians. :-(

what a horrible day for Texas. The Chinese are giving Houston away to Russia in some kind of "hand-me-down" trade.

They didn't just hand me over to the Russians, they handed me over to the Russian health care system.

I like how you look at the positive. You're right! In addition to the balcony, it appears it's an open bar at this hospital (please refer to the misc bottles/cans beneath my bed). That will improve the ambience, no doubt.

I do hope the Chinese and Russians have enjoyed the past few days as I looked at homey type stuff at Crate and barrel, listened to audiobooks from the Houston Public library, watched a youtube video of a guy explaining the Landmark Forum cult** to his cat, admired my niece's artwork on artsonia.com and checked out weather reports from chron.com. Hopefully, I have kept them entertained.

**Since it appears Landmark Forum has taken legal action against those referring to their pricey workshops as cults, I retract my statement that it's a cult and would like to change the word "cult" to "those wacky workshops for people with approx $500 to blow." This is my sleep deprived opinion and all sleep deprived opinions I share on myopenforum.com reflect my disjointed rantings alone and do not reflect the disjointed rantings of myopenforum.com.

There is nothing in windows that does this normally. What Third Party firewall are you running? This sounds like you are infected with a fake Antivirus program.

Yeah, I was afraid of that. In all the years I've had computers, I've never seen Chinese characters listed in the programs that were running. I'm using Norton, which obviously ain't working so hot. With my luck, whatever it is that's on my system probably has the capability to disable any new antivirus/antispyware/firewall I install.

It likely isn't anything Windows. I have only seen something like that once or twice, and one time it was on a computer my mother had. I have a cousin that built it for her, and he is a little more concerned than average about privacy and security. He installed something like "NetGuard" on her computer. It would go off anytime it detected a hack attempt (this was in the days of dial up). Even simple things like a port scan would set this thing off. It may have been a legit program, but i really didn't see the value in it (especially on a dial up connection...you didn't even use firewalls back then really).

If you get something like that that is, like Nline said, a fake program meant to run viruses and spyware while keeping you trying to fix other problems it "identifies", then it would make sense what she is describing.

Man, your computer is like a dog: it is going to pick up fleas and ticks no matter what you do. All you can do it try to keep it to a minimum, and dip them if they get too far gone. I hate having to "dip" my computer (to continue the stupid metaphor)...i can rarely find my install disks.

I managed to download the Superspyware thing, and that's where I get stumped. You said once downloaded to "Update before you run it and go to scanning control under the preferences and make sure all the options are checked except, "Scan only known file types" and
Display Scan option in IE."

1. How do I update it?
2. Where's the preferences? If I right click SuperSpyware I see "properties" but no "preferences."
3. As evidenced above, I suffer from PC Idiotitis.

it should prompt you to update when you first run it.

When you run the program, you will see a preferences menu in the window somewhere.

That should answer both questions.

So, I do need to run it before I update it? The directions say to update before I run it. I'm so confused. You have to take me by the hand and guide me.

A plane ticket and maybe one meal and Nline would probably be in Houston first thing in the morning.

he doesn't mean "run the program", he means "run the scan". You have to run the program to update it. when the update is complete, make the preference menu changes, then run the scan.

the format is similar in concept to norton. you can open it and do stuff to the program before you can run the scan. Same concept.
