Default Overclocking
I'm certain that overclocking is a way to improve and expand performance to any pc that is capable of doing so. Of course, this isn't a 486DX33 either... so might be more risky. Is 3rd party software available to overclock an Intel Pentium D 830 (3GHz) processor with stock bios (DELL XPS600 A11) or would it even be recommended? Yes, it runs fine as-is... I am a speed junkie and a geek. Hey, if anyone has any recommendations, please feel free to let me know... I'd appreciate it greatly.

I've never heard of anyone able to overclock a Dell. Overclocking can only be done at the BIOS level. If you want to overclock you need to build your own.

Do a google search for CPUFSB. It might be able to help you overclock from within Windows.

This is true. I've only heard Dell allowing overclocking on the XPS line with the Intel Xtreme edition processor, which I didn't invest in. I'm not even sure this CPU could handle the cooling necessary for overclocking, however, there is some that have achieved 3.7 GHz with a stock system.

I can overclock my Asus P5Q PRO board with a Intel E8500 to 4.16 GHz (sorry, CPU-Z wouldn't give me a money shot ). My CPU temp (using HWMonitor) was at 48C idle/68C load air cooled using a Zalman 9500A fan and Arctic Silver Ceramique. It's stable at that setting but I'm paranoid . I'd like to settle for a mild overclock, say 3.6 GHz but I'm still trying to find that sweet spot. The memory timings and voltages (4x1GB DDR2-1066) have me confused, but with XP SP3, I'm not sure it's worth the effort. I'll have to get a 300GB velociraptor for the clean install of Windows 7...
