A system came in with a very animated woman. Apparently she's not been able to recieve her E-mails for the last month. She's been on the phone to her ISP multiple times without success.
It was quickly obvious what the problem was... ![]() I know she didn't know any better, but seriously, we're cracking up here, the "asinfullstop" nearly brings me to tears. I just love that the tech on the phone must have said "No spaces in it" [rofl] |

TBH, thing that gets me about these sorts of things ISN'T that people don't understand, often they have no experience, etc in PCs to fall back on - but their attitude!
Hexus, have you thought of setting up a rair shop, yourself, then you can tell the idiots exactly what you think of them and where they can go? You'd keep the good ones and get rid of the dross! |

She was a middle-aged lady, professional sort. She freely admitted she knew nothing about computers but she was very aggitated. That said, several calls to an Indian call centre can drive anyone to distraction.
Whilst funny, I've sorted her problem and not charged her. I think the laughter it caused was worth it. (naturally we haven't laughed while she was here, although I'm not sure how I'll keep a straight face explaining what had happened.) |

Back the the windows 98 days I had this conversation with a customer.
Me: OK, now type format space C colon and press enter... Customer: It says invalid drive letter... Me: Format "space" C for charlie colon. Customer: Invalid drive letter... Me: Odd, we fdisk'd it fine, I can't understand why it's not working. Customer: Well, the C key on my keyboard isn't working, so I'm using K, does that make any difference? Similarly, last Friday a guy came in complaining his PC wouldn't boot to windows. I suggested he pop the tower down for me to look at, even tapped the system nearest me as an example. He came back with his old 19" CRT. I explained again, showed him a tower PC and he said "OK, no problem, sorry!" then came back with his printer *facepalm*. |

LMAO at all 3 of those stories. This brings me back to the old days when I worked tech support, there truly are too many boneheads out there. It's not even about agitation, it's just that people call in and lose all listening skills - they expect you to do it all for them which is so dumb because they'd usually be off the phone in 5 minutes otherwise.

hmm, removing information from customers pc's and posting them on an online forum, Im pretty sure there's a law on this (or at the very least taking information from pc's without owners the permission. So she uses a common POP3 server, is middle aged, and lives in the West Midlands... someone call Sherlock! |

It would have to be a little more personal than her POP3 server before you could realistically get the law involved. opening up the email settings. making a print screen of it (with the customers Info). transferring it to a memory stick. transferring the Image onto another PC Posting it to a public forum without prior permission from customer (although edited). thus bringing us to the subject of him being in a position of trust with peoples sensitive data, and abusing it for a laugh on line. am I right or am I right, it could have been log in details for her bank, online stores etc,and this is where crimes can happen if the person repairing said PC had no scruples. just to clarify... its not the subject matter, its the actions he had taken on the customers PC. anyway most internet providers/email providers usually have a downloadable email configuration file that you click to merge. so I call BS |

I did have one of the ladies where I used to work come rushing up to me once in a complete tizzy that the document she had been working on for the last 2 hours had all just disappeared off the screen. When I went over to her machine she had a book resting on the Enter key in the corner of the keypad bless her x)

Some people just play stupid though.
My director turned up at my office today to give a presentation to everyone (about 15 people). He mentions that he needs to set his laptop up with a projector. My old boss in the office is like "ah, thats IT - Chris is the one that knows how it works". I've shown my old boss about 10 times how to set up the bloody projector, and she DOES understand. When it suits her. To top it all off - at the end of the presentation the projector was still sitting there after everyone had fecked off back to their desks. Yeah, because unplugging the thing is so bloody technical. ![]() |
