Does anyone have experience with this engine? I have one that is going to be tuned to 300BHP by using cams, custom head, exhaust and remap!
Now my question is, is there anyway I can get this to have a nice deep throaty roar like a mustang? I know it's not a V8 but V6's sound pretty good too. So what sort of exhaust and head should I go for? ![]() |

It's a nice engine with a lot of potential but it's not terribly modern which is evident in the emission and consumption.
Anyways, I take it that you're from US? You should be able to get some nice headers and full exhaust for them. There's a heavily modified Cougar with the 2.5 over here where I live and it has a very nice throaty and deep rumble note. Dunno what he has done to it though but it can be done ![]() Dunno if the exhaust parts are interchangable between the 3.0 and 2.5 but I'm guessing they would be. Dunno where you could get the parts though... ![]() |

Seems like the difference from the 2.5L to the 3.0L is a bore increase. The 2.5L made the Ward's Best 10, so this 3.0L has got to be a pretty good motor too.
Noble modified this motor, twin-turbo'd it and has it pushing 425hp. The 3.5L even made the 2007 Ward's best 10 list and I think that Ford is coming out with a car that uses this motor and also has it turbocharged. The motors do seem pretty strong, so with the mods you are doing, you should be able to sometime throw on a supercharger/turbocharger without worrying too much about killing your car. I am sure that you can get this thing to sound pretty nice. There are a few V6's around that can sound pretty sweet. I have even heard that the 4.0L V6 in the mustang sounds a lot nicer then the 4.6L V8 mustang all stock. Tried finding a sound clip at magnaflow but no go there. |

What car is this mounted in and what are the stock power numbers?
I've always wanted to put full headers and exhausts on my 3.8L Series II, but the car is FWD and the engine is mounted with the pistons firing front to back instead of side to side (serpentine belt faces the wheel well, not the radiator). It's almost impossible to change spark plugs. |

What car is this mounted in and what are the stock power numbers? Or it is a TDI with more than twice the fuel economy with mods of it own that still keep them super slow. Yeah, the FWD motors, I don't really get how to easily change $2 spark plugs. Seems freakin' ridiculous. I was looking at my Step-Moms Sebring one day with the 2.5L V6. I was like "Well sh/t, looks like you have to take that damn intake manifold and how knows what else is behind that before you can even think about changing the spark plugs." And now with a lot of things going AWD that are also FWD, the motors are still sideways, so that doesn't help any. |

This sounds really nice!
http://videos.streetfire.net/search/...795a72856d.htm He says that it is a Duratec and I am sure that it is the 3.0L. |

That car sounds nice in the video, pity he didn't rev it any higher.

Nah, power would be wasted in FWD but I could buy a brand Duratec 3.0l Twin Turbo from Noble for £8000! 450BHP and 400ft/lb. Not my thing though tbh. I saw a review of the new Charger 5.7L (340/390) RWD vs. the Impala 5.3L (303/323) FWD cop cars. In a straight line, the Charger was faster by a little over 2 seconds, but once they took it around the corners, the Impala only lost by 2 seconds on a sum 1 1/2 minute track. 300hp is going to be really nice though on a N/A 3L motor. Thats going to be something to brag about, when all these other people have 3L that are turbocharged. |

Ugh, 300hp? I say go more! The duratec's are pretty nice engines, very wide powerbands, very reliable, and they breathe well. I own a Cougar with the duratec, and I can tell you that a lot of times besides the straight 3L swaps. They opt fro high compression "hybrids". Whats that mean you say? Well you grab a 3L and add SVT Cams + Manifolds/heads from the Duratec SVT engine. You get all the fun of the 3L...with the top end power from the SVT. Now a straight 3L + Turbo will net you more power...but its more expensive...and depending on the platform...you better have LSD and upgraded axles. I know the cougars chassis wheel hops like a mother ****er if you get anywhere near 300hp without doing those things. Besides all that, the duratec responds to bolt on's well. I/H/E...headers esp. The duratec is one of the sweetest sounding v6's I have ever heard. I put a CAI, Straight 2.5" Dual pipes, SVT TB, Headers/Y-Pipe, and a SVT UIM/LIM on my Cougar...and it effing roars! for a v6, even with the resonator in. It sounds really awesome at idel, almost like a 8...but when the secondaries open at 4000...it just screams. I love it! I'm prob. pushing 220hp right now with my setup...good for 14's. This is with the 2.5L setup. Plenty on the street for me... Hope that helped ![]() |
