someone said she is cheating on you which is probably the case.
Someone else said if she ends a 4 yr relationship with a text message she is messed up and that is also true. That alone shows she doesnt even respect you at all. Good ridance.

Dude... that's cold!

I can always respect a girl if she has the guts to tell me her feelings to my face...

She can punch me in the face
She can kick me in the balls
She can do what she likes to tell me its over and I will respect it.
...but if she does not have the guts to say it to my face then she's gotta face up to the fact that I will just have to **** her sister.

4 years, and yes it hurts... but dude, don't waste any more of your emotions on a girl who thought you were barely worth a 20c SMS.

Get out, gat laid, and have fun.

What ever you do just don't curl up in a ball of insecurity for the next 15-20 years.

Man that is terrible. I know that a lot of people around here have little one liner jokes or whatever when they reply but 4 years is an extremley long time. I think I know how you would feel as I've been daying my gf for almost two years and things have started to get rocky. Just the thought of losing all that you put into the relationship makes you feel sick. All the money you've spent on her, all the little things you've done for her, all the time you spent doing them, adding up to nothing now. A terrible thing. [no]

LadyM broke things off with me while I was at work via MSN Messenger... What hurt the most is that she later emailed me asking me to never contact her again because it would only make things hurt worse. I respected her wishes because the last thing I would ever want to do is hurt her...

Sorry to hear about your luck man, but there are plenty of fish in the sea... My mom always said that if things didn't work out that God had something better intended for you. Well, they've only gotten better, though the heartbreak can be unbearable in between.
LM and the original poster - these text message breakups are not only a despicable way to let someone know that their partner wants to leave them but I've always had the idea that it may be a third party that has got hold of the 'phone/computer that has sent the message.
Before getting too upset/angry/depressed or whatever, give the other party a proper telephone call and make sure they actually sent it.

If the other party has actually sent it, IMO, it is over. Do not fall for the second thoughts' thing as they've already shown they don't care that mnuch for your feelings and they are already thinking of leaving - possibly they're holding on to you as a fall back if they're looking at getting another lover or are already cheating on you.

Last thing, WTF do women think "lets be friends" actually means? If a male friend likes them enough and has summoned up the nerve to ask them out, the last thing anyone with self respect will do is hang around, like a puppy wanting scraps, while they go with someone else.

Last thing ( I lied ), have you had a good think about what may have led to this? There are usually indications somethings wrong well beforehand.

Worrying that someone could do that after 4 years, just don't let them change you for the worst;

Making you paranoid about future relationships etc

Stay true to who you are and live you life, someone who will respect you as a human being with emotions and will have a dignified opinion of you will fall into lap soon enough! Good luck and don't let the bi*ch get you down

Why do we fall? To pick ourselves back up.

My advice... ignore her and move on... enjoy being single.

She's playing games, dont let her manipulate you with them

The only way to handle this is to ignore her and treat her like you don't have time for her now. She'll wisen up after.

Yeah it's pretty damn selfish. It reminds me of something that happened to me, I wasn't dumped by text, I'm sure she would have done it's just that texting hadn't really taken off back then (I sent my first text a week after) but after a long and serious relationship I was dumped over the phone from over 50 miles away despite the fact that she'd seen me that morning! Apparently the reason for that was she knew she wouldn't be able to tell me to my face as she wouldn't be able to handle seeing me hurt like that. Which of course is the chickens way out of not facing responsibility for your actions and hurting the other person more to avoid a bit of suffering yourself this is no doubt what this girl is up to with her text.

It turned out she had f***ed some other guy two days before while I was asleep upstairs, and then you find out about other ****. So my advice to you DjW is cut your losses and don't give the girl the pleasure of dumping you in this way. Why should you let her get the just play it 'like friends' bollocks where you meet up with her next week talk it over and she doesn't have to feel so guilty. Tell her straight now, she's a shallow little bitch and you hate her for the way she's treated you. After 4 years what kind of person sinks as low as to dump you via SMS? Yeah if you were a couple of school kids going out for a few weeks she can dump you by SMS and it's cool but a 4 year relationship! Who the F*** does she think she is!?! People often seem to like to do this don't they? Weasel out of the fact that they've done one of the cruellest things you can do to the person they proclaimed to love and avoid the reality of the hurt they've caused.

I think you ought to write her a text ending it with "go F*** yourself bitch!" You could also preface it with "Certain people on FM message board have advised me to tell you..." I think I'd make a great Agony Aunt

Oh yeah and the moral of the story? After about a year this girl phones me up crying her eyes out, the guy she'd been seeing, who she had another kid with had dumped her and was apparently doing all sorts of evil **** to **** up her life/friendships. And what does she have to say to me? "Oh I don't know why I ever left you, you are such a nice guy, you treated me so well, blah, blah, blah." And I'm supposed to give a **** now? So oh yeah the moral, time is a healer and the more distance you get from you ex now the faster you'll get over it. Hate is always a good starting point after that you move on.

I always said I'd never hit a woman.. but if my girl ever texted me to break up *been together like 5 years* I'd probably slap her. Or I'd have her sister slap her. That is by far the most chickenshit way you could ever break up with someone and it shows a complete lack of respect for the other person.
