huh, I actually used mininova quite a lot for anime downloads. Now I can't do that any more. Guess I'm just gonna have to stream it from now on.

Was gutted when UK-T was taken down as well 3 weeks ago and that was private, was on that the day it launched around 4yrs ago, 4tb of uploading went poof overnight

Mainly used it for catching up on TV shows like Family Guy, Simpson's, Mythbysters and Stargate as the US air it a few days earlier than the UK, plus no ads.

Seems all the major sites are going slowly one by one.

That's what I was wondering. I'm not big into torrents, mostly just get fansubs, but I don't see why people wouldn't use TPB instead.

I do.. if I download an album and like it I'll buy it as mp3 sound shite on my hifi. Alternatively, if I don't like it I delete it.

It can be useful for things that you can't actually find in a store. Foreign stuff especially. Or replacing a windows XP disc. Good luck finding a clean ISO though...

You forgot the cameras on every street-corner (for your own safety, of course) [yes]

Of course not, why would I ask a serious question in a thread that's essentially about grabbing "free stuff". We've been over this before... there are people like me, who pay for stuff, then there are tools.

Or more accurately, people like us who pay the development and production costs - and those who're ripping others off - if you guys had any redeeming values, you'd at least send the artists, producers and/or developers some money towards their costs.

What I don't understand is why this thread is still here - there's clear discussion about advocating the downloading of illegal software, which is against the forum rules, yet no-one's been censured?

You don't honestly expect people to believe this do you? I tried this ones and got blasted for it and called a liar and everything. Everyone who downloads illegally and even if they pay for it all in the end are still nothing more then thieves apparently.

Some guy downloads 10,000 audio tracks for free. Who would expect him to buy all of them, if he couldn't get them as free download? Lets assume that one CD album holds 20 tracks. It would be 500 albums. And that is just a beginning.

Some guy downloads tens of games per year. He bought like 2-3 games per year before cheap Internet connection was available. Who would expect him suddenly buy all those games, if free download wouldn't be an option?

Some people use more stuff, if they can get them for free, but won't use as much, if it costs money.

Mininova is just one site. So is Pirate Bay. Magnet links are developed and soon all can spread big files without actual servers. You post a magnet link like you post a normal link, people click it and downloading/uploading starts. Instead some server tracking, you can start downloading a file from several other home computers directly at the same time. So there will be a new way to get all those big Linux distros

I don't have a problem with 'try before you buy' - bought some crap over the years that was quite misleading in the presentation.
