Some guy downloads 10,000 audio tracks for free. Who would expect him to buy all of them, if he couldn't get them as free download? Lets assume that one CD album holds 20 tracks. It would be 500 albums. And that is just a beginning.

Some guy downloads tens of games per year. He bought like 2-3 games per year before cheap Internet connection was available. Who would expect him suddenly buy all those games, if free download wouldn't be an option?

Some people use more stuff, if they can get them for free, but won't use as much, if it costs money.

Mininova is just one site. So is Pirate Bay. Magnet links are developed and soon all can spread big files without actual servers. You post a magnet link like you post a normal link, people click it and downloading/uploading starts. Instead some server tracking, you can start downloading a file from several other home computers directly at the same time. So there will be a new way to get all those big Linux distros
So are you for or against?
How much music or gaming time does this person have? Doesn't really matter, though, does it?

One thing I do have an issue with concerning the ARIA (or whatever) is their assumption that EVERY illegal copy of a music track (or game) represents a lost sale - much of the time, the person would be unlikely to buy the track anyway - even if that was the only way to get it - as, to be blunt, much of it is crap not worth a dime. Other thing is that it may simply not be available in any other format!
I've been looking for a prestine copy of John Hanlon's Higher Trails album for many years - and no, I don't have any mp3s' of it.

Indeed, people who think the movie/game/music business would be 10x larger without piracy are fooling themselves more than a nerd trying to get laid on prom night..

Because some people can't get it into their skulls that individual preference etc all play a large roll, and some want hard copies and a visibile collection they can touch and feel, thus use the downloading as a demo.

I've bought albums that I've downloaded, I also normally try and limit my music downloads to an inferior quality (E.G not .flac etc) so that I feel like I'm also getting a little upgrade as well as a physical copy when I purchase...

Pretty much, but the memory does roll over, from what I've read.
